Solo Jazz Performance Routine Course

Spend 6 weeks learning a jazz routine with Sharon Davis and perform with your classmates at our end-of-term ball.

In this 6-week course you will learn a solo jazz performance routine with Sharon Davis. Then perform it with your classmates at our end-of-term Ball! 

Course Length: 6-week course (1-hour classes) plus performance at the end-of-term party

Location: Academy Studios, 15 Pratt Mews, Camden NW1 0AD

Cost: £90 per person

 

2020 courses

This course will be run three times in the year, with a different performance routine each course:

  • Starting 25th February: 9.00pm every Tuesday from 25th February to 31st March, with performance on the evening of Wednesday 1st April 2020.
  • Starting 9th June: 9.00pm every Tuesday from 9th June to 14th July, with performance on the evening of Wednesday 22nd July 2020.
  • Starting 20th October: 9.00pm every Tuesday from 20th October to 24th November, with performance on the evening of Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

What is the level of this course?

This is a Level 2/3 course for dancers with some jazz dance experience. You should know your classic jazz steps and 1920s Charleston, as well as a few vintage jazz routines such as the Shim Sham. This is a solo dance class, no partner needed. 

what will I learn?

You will learn a solo jazz group choreography over the six weeks of this course. Sharon will provide you with recap videos and other resources to help you learn the routine and polish it to perfection! You will also get advice along the way about style, technique and performance skills. Even though it’s a group choreography, our aim is to help you find your own personal style and the confidence to express yourself! 

About Sharon

Sharon Davis is internationally known for her distinctive style in Lindy Hop, Charleston, Jazz and Burlesque. She has taught and performed around the world since 2006. She holds 1st place titles at the International Lindy Hop Championships, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, National Jitterbug Championships, Canadian Swing Championships, Burlesque Hall of Fame, World Burlesque Games and has claimed numerous other awards internationally.

She is known for her dedication to the history of vernacular jazz/swing dances, and studied with legends Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, Jean Veloz, Mabel Lee, Dawn Hampton and others. She considers it her mission in life to pass on the knowledge and beautiful spirit that she learned from her teachers. Sharon aims to cultivate in her students a foundation of historical appreciation, compassionate connection, courageous movement and musical intelligence. Sharon believes these four pillars are the pathway to creativity, self-expression, joy and finding yourself in the dance. With her bright and bubbly personality, Sharon’s teaching style is energetic, inspiring and fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear/bring?

Wear comfortable training clothes and your normal jazz dance shoes. Bring a bottle of water and your phone/camera to film routine recaps. Dress for the performance will be discussed in the first class.

What is the level of this course?

What if I have to miss one of the classes?

Don’t worry! If you miss a class, you will still get the practice videos from that week, which you can use to catchup. Your teacher will also help you catchup in the next class if you need help. 

Can I drop-in to this course?

No, this is a progressive 6-week course, focused on learning a choreography. You must sign up for the whole program.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, if you are unable to pay the course fee in full now, then email info@jazzmad.co.uk to arrange a payment plan. 

I took this course last term. Will it be a different routine this term?

Yes, it is a new routine every term, so you are very welcome to take this course repeatedly. We will never repeat routines.
