Thursday SpeakeasyFree Swing social 8.30 - 11pm every Thursday at Jazzbourne
443 New Cross Rd, London SE14 6TA
On Thursdays we have an evening dedicated to the original swing dance – the Lindy Hop from the 1930s and 40s. From 8.30pm to 11.00pm every Thursday join us at Jazzbourne in New Cross / Deptford for a free swing social with beginner-friendly swing tunes, space to dance and drinks available at the bar. Expect a fun and relaxed atmosphere in a groovy speakeasy-style location. Come to practice, social dance or just have a drink & chat!
Don’t know how to dance Lindy Hop yet? Book into our 12-week Swing Dance Beginners course which is held on the same night before the Speakeasy (7pm-8.30pm) then you can hang out after class to practice what you’ve learned! The course is held three times a year.
From 8.30pm onwards everyone is welcome, entry is free and no booking is needed – you don’t have to be a JazzMAD student to come. This is a relaxed swing social with beginner-friendly tempos on the jukebox, but all levels are welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear/bring?
Smart casual is fine! Some people like to get into the 1930s/1940s spirit by dressing in vintage style, and others will be dressed like you would, say, to go to a cocktail bar.
If you plan on dancing, please no high heels or shoes that will scratch or mark Jazzbourne’s beautiful dancefloor. Leather- or suede-soled swing dance shoes are a dream on the venue’s sprung wooden dancefloor. Street shoes are fine as long as they don’t mark the floor.
Jazzbourne is a cashless venue, so card or contactless payments only at the bar. If you are lucky enough to look under 25, please be prepared to show valid photo ID to prove you are over 18 when buying alcohol.
Please bring minimal possessions as it is a small venue and the cloakroom may not be operating.
What time should I arrive if I just want to social dance?
Arrive at 8.30pm for social dance time. If you arrive earlier than 8.30pm, there may still be a class going on.
Last drinks will be served by the bar at 10.30pm, and the venue closes at 11pm.
