Vintage Jazz Dance
Study the authentic dance steps of the jazz & swing eras, including The Charleston and beyond, with London’s finest solo jazz instructors including the world renowned Sharon Davis and special guest teachers. New steps, concepts and exercises every class.
This is a solo dance class, so no partner is needed. This is a drop-in class (not a course) so start anytime and drop in to classes whenever you like.
What is this class about?
Learn famous jazz steps from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Do you know how to Charleston, Suzie Q, Tabby the Cat and Camel Walk? Can you spin, slide and soft-shoe? You will! All the most important solo dance steps & concepts from the jazz and swing eras. Different moves, exercises and concepts are taught each class. You will learn the history of each jazz step, how to execute it with rhythm and style, and how it connects with other jazz steps in the historic repertoire. You will gain experience of both improvising these steps and also learning them in short routine sequences.
These classes are suitable for all levels and everyone is welcome. The first section of class will teach the basic jazz steps from scratch, then progress to more advanced variations, combinations and sequences. The class will get more challenging as the hour proceeds. Absolute beginners are very welcome – you may find the final exercises challenging, but this is a great way to learn intensively. Advanced dancers are also very welcome – you may find the beginning of class already familiar, but revisiting your fundamentals is always a good idea, and you will be challenged later in class.
